Carrowood (Carrowood) - 1.11 acres
Carrowood is one of The Woodland Trust's 'Woods on Your Doorstep' woodlands, created to commemorate the Millennium. It was planted with a mixture of native shrubs and trees in 1999.
Carrog Wood (Portaferry) - 13.57 acres
The new wood was formerly an area of grazing fields set upon a drumlin in the rolling hills landscape typical of the Ards Peninsula, with gentle slopes down to the nearby lough and farmland. From the top of the wood you can see down to Strangford Lough and across the Portaferry House lands.
Cypress Park (Donaghadee) - 2.3 acres
Cypress Park is a small community wood of young woodland, comprising oak, ash and alder as its main species. The wood forms a focal point for the residents of new nearby housing estates.
Friends of Belvoir Wood (Belvoir, Belfast) - 14.13 acres
Friends of Belvoir Wood is a woodland creation project. The woods consist of ponds, wildflower meadows, gravel paths and a stream. Burnet moths and orchids are valuable species, and the area is an important habitat for the red squirrel.
Glaswater Wood (Crossgar) - 14.31 acres
Glas means green in Gaelic and the Glaswater River runs near to this site, which was once part of the Great wood of the Dufferin that ran from Downpatrick to Bangor. The three fields that make up this wood were planted up in 2000 with much help from the local community. A pond was created incorporating two wet areas in 2002 to encourage a greater biodiversity within the site. A small car park exists at the north west corner leading off the Glasswater Road
Kilcooley Wood (Bangor) - 11.66 acres
One of the few publicly accessible green spaces within this busy urban area, used and enjoyed by many. Lesser celandine and pockets of bluebells in Spring. Summer months bring early purple orchids. Flat terrain and paths suitable for pushchairs.
Nut Wood (Delamont Country Park, Killyleagh) - 8.9 acres
Nut Wood is one of The Woodland Trust's 'Woods On Your Doorstep' woodlands, created to commemorate the Millennium. It was planted with native broadleaf trees and Corsican pine, and features an open area with seating and a living willow sculpture.
Pond Wood & Compass Hill (Old Court, Strangford) - 2.87 acres
A mixed woodland with ash and sycamore being the dominant species, ground flora includes wood sorrel, primrose and bluebell. A Victorian pond lies at the centre of the site and heron, otters and seals have been spotted towards the coast.
The Woodland Walkway ( East Belfast) - 2.05 acres
Woodland Walkway is a woodland creation site planted by the local community with a mixture of native trees, poplar and Swedish whitebeam. Paths allow you wander through and enjoy views over Belfast and the Lough. Access is via Knockmount Gardens.
Windmill Hill Wood (Ballynahinch) - 7.07 acres
This mixed broadleaf woodland was once part of the estate belonging to the nearby Norton Priory and then subsequently the Brooke family. Today, it’s a tranquil natural haven where you can escape the hubbub of town, look out for wildlife, and enjoy the changing seasons. The site is the largest of a cluster of Woodland Trust sites in the immediate area which include nearby Big Wood and Fountains Wood.
Woodland View (Bowtown Estate, Newtownnards) - 9.24 acres
Woodland view is one of The Woodland Trust's 'Woods on Your Doorstep' woodlands, created to commemorate the Millennium. It lies on a drumlin on the outer edge of Bowtown housing estate, just outside Newtownards in County Down.
