We are looking for well composed photographs of carefully chosen vehicles that are exquisitely staged to tell us a story. We love our cars and the journey they take us on, both literally and figuratively, which impassions us all.
Compete to be a part of Carfest 2024 , a non-profit festival held at Joe Freeman Coliseum Expo Hall, 3201 E. Houston Street, San Antonio, Tx 78219. This 3-day event had an attendance of over 15,000 people in 2023. What an opportunity to have your work seen by thousands of automotive enthusiasts!
This incredible festival unites 25 Auto Repair shops across the greater San Antonio area to give out 8 donated cars and repair 25 cars for charity. They will also have live music, food trucks, drinks, and family activities, such as: New Driver Workshop & Jeopardy, BBQ Cook-off, Cars on Display, Food Truck Competition & a Friday Night Lights Cruise-In.
Please submit your images for, Philip Thomas, to view and possibly be selected for our feature presentation. Philip will select the top ten images which will receive a cash prize as follows: 1st= $300, 2nd= $200, 3rd-10th $50. All ten images will be printed (no cost to artist) and presented during the festival. These images will be sold at silent auction and ALL proceeds from the artwork auction will given back to the non-profit to help them grow.
After the festival, all submissions will be posted on this website in an online gallery and another page will have a hotlink back to the top ten winning artist's website so they may benefit from increased traffic and sales. We will also be posting a video of Jonathan discussing the top ten, and his reasons for selecting the work that impressed him most.
Juror: Philip Thomas
A native of the UK, San Antonio, Texas, has been his home since 2006. A former photojournalist, he loves to shoot street and still life photography and is a documentary wedding photographer with over 90 international awards. He has judged numerous photo contests and shared his passion for photography at schools and photography meetups.
When judging a print, Philip aims to assess its emotional impact while ensuring it meets a set of criteria. He also considers the fundamental technical aspects, which sometimes relates to creativity. These include ensuring a sharp and well-focused image with correct exposure. Philip looks for composition and the use of design elements like dynamic symmetry, storytelling, lighting, impact and the feeling it evokes, intensity and purpose in the photography, use of color if used, technical quality, creativity, points of interest, and style.
Submissions:
~Images sizes and labels: 1800 pixels longest side, 72 DPI, JPEG, no watermarks, labeled as Last name_First name_Image title.jpg
~There is a non-refundable submission entry fee of $25.00 for 1- 3 images
~A confirmation email will be sent upon receipt of payment and images (please check spam folder)
~The competition is open to both professional and amateur photographers of any level
~Top ten winners will be notified of the juror's selection and their placings within 2 weeks of the closing date (winning images must be printable up to 40" longest side)
~The top ten winners will be given a cash prize.
~Genie Images will print the top ten winning images for the exhibit at no cost to the photographer
~The entire winning collection of 10 prints will be auctioned and 100% of the monies will be given to the organization hosting the photographic exhibit
~USE RIGHTS: Genie Images retains the right to print the top 10 winners one time for the sole purpose of auction to benefit the organization hosting the exhibit
Post Photographic Exhibit:
~All submissions will be posted in an album on this website with each image having a hotlink back to the photographer's website for increased traffic and sales
~All images may be sold by the individual photographer without any sales percentage given to Genie Images
