Keep clothing simple. Try to choose solid colors for your photo session.
Our photographer may suggest a full-length pose. Make sure you coordinate your family's clothing from head to toe.
Darker clothing slims. Choose shades of black, brown, blue, dark green and other jewel-toned colors.
Scoops or v-necks flatter shorter necks and full faces. Turtlenecks or high-necked garments flatter longer necks and slender faces.
Keep clothing consistent. Dress everyone in the same style. Don't mix casual and formal clothing in photos.
Wear light on white. Light pastel or white clothing looks best against a light-colored or white photography backgrounds.
Wear dark on dark. Dark clothing looks best against darker backgrounds and creates a more formal mood.
Add accents. Show your style in small accents. Save stronger colors and patterns for accessories like scarves and neckties.
*Children: Tips to capture best expressions.
Most common mistake parents make before their session is they over practice the child's smile prior to session. Keep them calm and relaxed. Avoid setting an appointment during their nap time, after a doctor's visit, ear piercing, or when their feeling unwell. Bring little snacks for your children just in-case and make sure they go to the restroom before the session. Please try to minimize to two outfits if possible. Most children do not like outfit change and their expressions will show after each change.
*Seniors: Bring in items that define who you are (musical instrument, sports-related, rings, necklace, hobby-related, etc...). Come in your favorite outfit that you enjoy wearing. We have a tuxedo for guys, velvet drapes for girls, and cap & gown for most schools.
*Family: Color coordinating will go a long way. Try to avoid busy pattern clothing. If body size is of concern darker long sleeves are recommended. Please dress head to toe to ensure a variety of poses: THAT MEANS no white socks unless the outfit calls for it!
*Newborn:VERY IMPORTANT! The ideal time is when your baby is 7-9 days old. We love photographing all babies, but we can say that most babies 2-8 weeks old just don't love the process of a photoshoot. Older babies are much harder to settle and typically will not tolerate being handled while sleeping. A session just goes considerably smoother when the baby is very young. If you are unable to leave your home for medical reasons please call us and we can arrange a visit to your house for a photo session.
*Maternity:Scheduling a shoot during the 7th - 8th month of your pregnancy is your safest bet. Another good milestone stage is when your belly is passing the chest line. We have various drapes & outfits for your use. Please look at our gallery samples for ideas.
