My fascination with trams extends far beyond Britain’s borders. Around the world, tramways have shaped the rhythm of cities — from the bustling boulevards of Europe to the wide avenues of Australia, the steep hills of San Francisco, and the modern light rail systems redefining urban life today.
Each city has its own tramway character — its own sound, style, and soul. Whether it’s the timeless elegance of a Lisbon Remodelado winding through narrow streets, the bright colours of Prague’s Tatra cars, or the enduring charm of Melbourne’s W-class fleet, trams connect people and places in a way few other forms of transport can.
Through my photography and photographic collections, I aim to capture that connection: the blend of movement, architecture, and human stories that make tramways so visually and emotionally compelling.
Trams are living history — not museum pieces, but working symbols of continuity and civic pride. I’ve been fortunate enough to photograph tram systems and collect images, both historic and modern, across Europe, North America, and beyond, documenting how each city interprets this classic form of electric transport.
