Peter J. Nicholls Photography have been taking photographs of Somerset Carnivals since 1977, the most prestigious illuminated Carnival in the World, for which we are proud to be associated. we have held this contract as Bridgwater's Official Carnival Photographers since 1988. In 2007 we are pleased to be sponsoring a trophy for the Bridgwater Carnival. The Peter J. Nicholls Photography Trophy, marking and celebrating 30 years of Carnival Photography. The studio holds negatives and digital images of all the Carnivals including walking entries. All of which are easily available.
Bridgwater Carnival has been in existence since 1605 celebrating the failure of Guy Fawkes to blow up the Houses of Parliament. It has evolved over the years to become the spectacular show that it is today with carts up to 100 feet long, 17 feet heigh and 11 feet wide, with some carts containing 20,000 light bulbs.
October 2005 saw the publication of a book entitled "Somerset Carnivals: A Celebration of 400 Historical Years of Carnival". Peter J. Nicholls was invited by Roger Evans a renowned local author to join him as co-author of this book which is destined to become the standard carnival fans bible for decades to come. A must for all carnivalites and local historians.
The studio provides the images to the Bridgwater Carnival Committee for the production of the superb Carnival Calendars which have been published for more than 25 years. This Calendar is a must for all to see and has become a collectors item. The Calendars are available from Dave Croker on 01278 421795 or Dave Speed on 01278 422547 or via our studio.
